APPLICATION PROCESS

APPLYING FOR A CAREER AT THE BILSTEIN GROUP – FROM STEP ONE IN THE PROCESS TO DAY ONE IN YOUR NEW ROLE

What happens once you've sent us your application? What can you do to ensure you make a great first impression? What questions can we clear up in advance? In this section you'll find everything you need to know about applying for a role with us.

As soon as we receive your application, it enters a structured process to ensure it is dealt with as quickly as possible. First, you will receive confirmation of receipt. Then our HR department will make an initial assessment of your application.

Apprentices
If you are applying for an apprenticeship, you will be invited to attend an assessment center. Once you have successfully completed the assessment, you will be invited for a second interview as part of a larger group. The final stage of the selection process takes the form of a one-to-one interview. We will let you know our final decision as quickly as possible.
Experienced hires
If you apply to our company as an experienced professional, the department you wish to join will carry out the preselection process. You may be called for either one or two interviews before a decision is made. Depending on the number of applications received, this process can take up to two months.
Getting to know each other
Your interview marks the first step in a career that's built to last. So we believe it's very important that the meeting is open, honest, and serves both our interests. It is our aim to form strong, long-lasting ties with our staff. To achieve this, employees must feel happy, be clear about what is expected of them, and have confidence that they have found the right platform from which to build their career. At the same time, we want them to impress us with their willingness to innovate, their people skills, hard work, and expertise.
Your path to success
If both parties agree we make a good match, we will draw up a roadmap for your ongoing development in our company. Here, we set out your targets, outline training and development requirements, and create a schedule for providing feedback. These reviews allow both sides to check on the progress made toward objectives and to make any necessary adjustments. Outside of these official meetings, you are of course welcome to ask us questions at any time.

APPLICATION TIPS

MARKETING YOURSELF – HOW TO IMPRESS US

  • slide
One person should be the focus of your application: you. So you have a huge amount of influence over whether you arouse our interest from the moment we start reading. Have a look through our tips to help you increase your chances of being selected for an interview at the BILSTEIN GROUP.

1. Highlight your strengths
If you are an experienced hire, you already know your strengths. But if you're just starting out in your career and are unsure about where your strengths lie, we recommend talking to family, friends, or teachers in detail about what you do best. This applies to both your technical knowledge (hard skills) and your social (soft) skills.
2. Writing a cover letter
The cover letter is the centerpiece of your application. Unlike your references, it is your opportunity to have your say. So don't just tell us which position you're applying for; convince us you're the right person for the job. Give us an idea of your talents and strengths – expressed in an interesting, error-free way on a single A4 page. Ultimately, you need to show us why we should hire you.
3. Adapt your resume
A neatly laid out resume is also a core component of your application and should provide a complete history of your career to date. Be sure to structure it clearly and to arrange information correctly and consistently, either in chronological or reverse chronological order.
4. Gather your references
Employer references and feedback forms are important proof of your professional experience. Applicants with professional experience sometimes include one or more references with a performance appraisal, along with a description of the areas they work in. If you are a high school or college graduate, we'd like to see your diploma.
5. Include a photo
A nice photo can be the perfect complement to your application. Your body language and expression will give us a good first impression of how you will represent the BILSTEIN GROUP. If you do decide to send us a picture, ask yourself two questions first: 1. Could you identify yourself by the photo? 2. Was it taken no longer than two years ago? If the answer to both of these questions is yes, you've made the right choice.
6. Prepare for the interview
The better you prepare, the more relaxed you will be and the easier it will be for us to get to know each other. We will want to talk about why you are a good fit for the BILSTEIN GROUP, what expectations you have of the role, and what your goals are in the medium to long term. Don't forget to take the opportunity to ask us questions, as well.
